I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.

About This Quote

The idea of hatred and the pain that comes with it is something we all know about. We may be more familiar with it than we are with love and friendship, but we still feel it. The pain of hatred is real and we all know the feeling, and yet we cling to our hates even though we know better. For one thing, hate can be a lot like a drug: It feels good at first, but it doesn’t last forever. People who hate often don’t see their hate as an addiction; they see it as their freedom.
